About Elizabeth Sikes & InterconnectedFrom the beginning, philosophy and psychology have been interconnected. They both have been driven by their concern for the health and happiness of the human soul.
The ancient Greek philosopher Socrates believed that philosophy was care of the soul, or psyche. Such care required wisdom and knowledge of the soul, that is, psychology. In East Asia, the Buddha's teachings about the human condition combined insight into the nature of the way things are--philosophy-- with insight into the nature of the way we are-- psychology. My background interconnects psychology and philosophy. It grounds my way of helping you achieve psychological well-being and deal with life's suffering from a holistic-Buddhist, existential, and psychoanalytic-psychodynamic perspective. I hold a Doctorate in Philosophy and a Masters in Existential and Phenomenological Psychology, which is humanistic and philosophically based. I have been sitting Zen meditation for over 10 years and practicing Hatha yoga for over 10 years. The existential and Buddhist traditions are deep resources for wisdom about the uncertainty and impermanence of life and relationships which we all face. Psychodynamic psychology shows us how unconscious process, often embedded in long-established patterns and neural pathways, operates in what we experience and suffer. Putting all this together, I specialize in depression, anxiety, and mood disorders, grief and loss, major life transitions, and trauma. |
